final Test with a torn calf muscle sustained Antworten

Sir Ian Botham believes England should consider recalling leg-spinner Adil Rashid for the third Test against Pakistan as a replacement for the injured Ben Stokes. Stokes has been ruled out of the game in Birmingham, which begins on Wednesday, and is also unlikely to play in the final Test with a torn calf muscle sustained in Englands series-levelling 330-run victory at Old Trafford.Englands selectors, who have named Rashid alongside seamers Steven Finn and Jake Ball in a 13-man squad for the third Test, have steered clear from playing two spinners in recent home Tests - the last instance came in 2013 when Graeme Swann and Simon Kerrigan featured against Australia at The Oval. However, with the Edgbaston wicket suited to spin, former Test captain Botham believes the Yorkshire bowler should get his chance as England look to take a stranglehold on the series. Rashid celebrates taking a wicket during the ODI series with Sri Lanka Id really like to see Rashid play, said Botham. Edgbaston is a turning wicket and having another spinner in the side will give England more options. The selectors traditionally dont like playing two spinners but I know this is something they are seriously talking about for this Test. BEEFYS BETS Sir Ian Botham expects Joe Root to star again at Edgbaston and has tipped him at 5/1 to be top bat. Rashid is yet to figure in a Test on home soil but has proved a valuable part of Englands limited-overs squad with both bat and ball. The Yorkshireman would provide extra strength to the batting, particularly in Stokes absence, but Botham feels Rashid should be picked for his bowling and is his tip to claim most England first-innings wickets with Sky Bet at 5/1.I wouldnt select him just because he can bat, Botham added.Hes an improving bowler who will only get better by playing and bowling in Test matches. England should have enough strength in their batting with the likes of Chris Woakes batting at nine. Chris Woakes boosts Englands lower-order batting England head into Wednesdays match, live on Sky Sports 2, as Sky Bets strong 4/6 favourites after their defeat of Pakistan at Old Trafford.Their recent record at the ground is impressive, winning seven and drawing three of the last 13 Tests since 2000, while Pakistan have never won at Edgbaston and suffered a crushing nine-wicket defeat on their last visit in 2010.England recorded a similar nine-wicket win over Australia at the ground last season, with last weeks hero Joe Root hitting 63, and Botham expects the Yorkshire run-machine to heap further agony to Pakistans bowlers next week. Englands Joe Root says removing risk from his game by batting at No 3 has helped his performances after receiving the man of the match award again Root landed the man-of-the-match award for his 254 at Manchester and has now scored 382 runs in the series.Botham added: Root is Englands best player and well see plenty more big scores from him in his career.Last week, the Sky Bet tipster enjoyed a clean sweep with all three selections - Joe Root (7/2) top England bat, Chris Woakes top England bowler (5/2) and the England win returning at a combined price of 16/1.BEEFYS THIRD TEST BETSEngland win - 4/6Top England bat 1st inns: Joe Root - 5/2Top England bowler 1st inns: Adil Rashid - 5/1 (Chris Woakes 5/2 if Rashid doesnt start)Joe Root top England bat and Adil Rashid top England bowler (1st inns) - 14/1Joe Root top England bat and Adil Rashid top England bowler and England win - 20/1 Also See: Fixtures/results Live cricket on Sky Get Sky Sports Cricket videos Cheap New Balance Online . -- Jane Kish stopped all 25 shots she faced as the Weyburn Gold Wings blanked the Sudbury Lady Wolves 3-0 on Friday to advance to the gold-medal game at the Esso Cup. It was their 10th extra time game of the year, and only the second one that did not got to a shootout.LOS ANGELES -- Dan Haren is back in a groove after enduring the worst stretch of his career throughout most of July. The veteran right-hander pitched well on two extra days of rest, Matt Kemp homered and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 Friday night. Haren (12-10) allowed one run and four hits in six innings against his former team. He struck out six and walked one, improving to 4-1 with a 2.04 ERA since Aug. 6. Haren stumbled through five consecutive losses from July 5 to Aug. 1. "Absolutely I lost my confidence," he said. Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis said the rest of the team couldnt tell. "He didnt show it to us, which is the sign of a great teammate," Ellis said. "Im really happy for him that he turned it around." Haren even singled to centre in the second when the bunt sign was removed after two strikes. His 12th win marked the first time since 1985 that the Dodgers have had four pitchers with 12 or more in a season. "Ive got four starts left here and I need to make them as good as I can for the team," said Haren, who signed a one-year deal last fall. "Weve got to win these." Kenley Jansen worked a perfect ninth, becoming the fourth Dodgers reliever to save 40 games in a season and the first since Eric Gagne in 2004. Jansen blew his fifth chance of the year Wednesday while attempting a four-out save in the teams 14-inning loss to Washington. He tossed the landmark ball into the crowd. "I should have kept that ball, but that kid will enjoy that ball," he said. After losing four of their previous six, the Dodgers stayed two games ahead of second-place San Francisco in the NL West. Seventeen of Los Angeles final 21 games are against division opponents. "Our schedule aint as easy as it looks," Kemp said. "We need everybody to step their game up here in September. These next couple of weeks are going to be very important for us." Vidal Nuno (0-5) gave up two runs and seven hits in seven innings, struck out five and walked two. The left-hander hasnt won since June 27 against Boston. He retired a career-best 22 straight batters until giving up a two-out single to Adrian Gonzalez in thee first.dddddddddddd "The first three innings were a little difficult. I was missing my spots," Nuno said. "I just found it in the third, after the home run, and just settled down a little bit and just threw strikes and not be in the middle of the plate." The Dodgers got just enough offence to eke out the win. Yasiel Puigs slump continued after an 0-for-3 effort, including a strikeout and a walk. He is 4 for 40 with one extra-base hit in his last 15 games. Kemp led off the third with his 18th homer, sending an 0-1 pitch into the Arizona bullpen in right field. The Dodgers led 1-0 on Hanley Ramirezs RBI single with two outs in the second that scored A.J. Ellis, who walked. Arizona closed to 2-1 in the fourth on Didi Gregorius sacrifice fly. "We tried to stay as selective as we could depending on how Dan ended up attacking us. But he was throwing strikes," Diamondbacks first baseman Mark Trumbo said. "We had to be aggressive." The Diamondbacks have allowed three runs or fewer in nine straight games, tying the clubs longest streak since Sept. 25, 2005, to April 5, 2006. KEMPS HOMER After hitting his 175th homer, Kemp is two behind Mike Piazza for fourth in Dodgers history. Kemp extended his season high-tying hitting streak to 11 games since Aug. 22, during which hes batting .364 with five doubles, three homers and 11 RBIs. TRAINERS ROOM Diamondbacks: Relief pitcher Brad Ziegler will have season-ending surgery on his left knee Tuesday to repair frayed cartilage under the kneecap. Dodgers: LHP Paco Rodriguez, on the disabled list since Aug. 4 with a shoulder strain, had a setback. He was sore on Thursday, a day after his bullpen session, so a simulated game set for Friday was scrubbed. Manager Don Mattingly said he still thinks theres time for Rodriguez to return this season. UP NEXT Diamondbacks: Chase Anderson (8-6, 3.75 ERA) starts and is one-third of an inning shy of tying his career best of 137 2-3 innings pitched in 2012.
