to field the ball and throw Suzuki ou Antworten

LONDON -- World Cup qualifying in North America is set to be overhauled to avoid shutting out the majority of countries in the CONCACAF region so early.CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani has instigated a review of an archaic format that leaves only six out of the regions 35 teams still in with a shot at qualifying for Russia in 2018.Alongside a potential new name to replace the corruption-tainted CONCACAF brand, revamping qualifying to be more inclusive has emerged as a key objective for Montagliani after five months in charge of the confederation covering North and Central America and the Caribbean.Something needs to change because you cant have 85 percent of your members who are on the outside looking in two years before the World Cup, Montagliani told The Associated Press. It doesnt make sense.Since qualifying for the 1998 World Cup, CONCACAF has used a system where teams play home and away in early rounds. Once 12 nations are remaining there are three groups of four, which produces six teams for a final round. The United States, Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, and Trinidad and Tobago are the last teams standing , chasing three of CONCACAFs automatic qualification places. Starting next month, they play each other twice in a league. Its great for those six teams over the next year and a bit but how about the other ones? Montagliani said. Its hard.Hard for players to raise their standard and hard for teams to generate revenue to fund soccer development.Caribbean countries have problems climbing the FIFA rankings, just because we are not able to play as many international games as you want to, John Krishnadath, president of the Suriname soccer federation, told the AP earlier this year, while also highlighting the high cost of traveling to matches.Surinames World Cup journey ended in June 2015 immediately after entering in the second round of CONCACAF qualifying. The first seven CONCACAF teams were eliminated back in March 2015. Its so long ago that Montagliani is the third president CONCACAF has had during qualifying for the 2018 tournament.Former CONCACAF head Jeffrey Webb was first arrested as part of the sprawling American investigation into soccer corruption in May 2015 and his temporary replacement, Alfredo Hawit, was indicted seven months later. Montagliani said CONCACAF competitions and the interests of teams were neglected in an era when the leadership was motivated by corruptly extorting money from the confederation and its commercial backers. Can you imagine you are a country trying to find a sponsor and they say, `Im all for it, whens your next big game? And its three years from now, Montagliani said during an interview in London. So we seriously need to look at our World Cup qualifying system that is a bit archaic. We need to be a bit more all-encompassing. Were looking at how we balance competitions with our commercial (priorities) without putting too much stress on already too busy calendars as well. But Montagliani is certain qualifying must change, although there could be a proliferation of games that draw smaller crowds and little broadcast revenue.Discussing a new configuration, Montagliani said: Maybe its like the Europeans or maybe its like the South Americans with a league -- or its a hybrid of the two.In Europe, countries are split into nine groups, balanced according to their rankings, and play games from September 2016 to October 2017. The group winners qualify automatically and the eight best runners-up will contest playoffs for the remaining four UEFA spots in Russia. In South America, the 10 CONMEBOL members are in a two-year league that started in October 2015. The top four have guaranteed World Cup places and the fifth-place team has to go through a playoff against a country from Oceania. Each region will gain more automatic World Cup places if FIFA President Gianni Infantino achieves his mission to expand the finals from 32 to 48 teams by 2026 when CONCACAF is in a strong position to bring the tournament to North America.Separately, Montagliani is also exploring how to upgrade CONCACAFs premier club competition. The Champions League is currently nearing the end of its group stage -- featuring eight, three-team mini-leagues -- before a knockout phase, starting with quarterfinals. The Champions League is a real opportunity for us to grow that product because when you look at the latter stages of it, its quite good, really well attended and great TV audiences, Montagliani said. But the early stages are poor, not well attended and maybe not the best stadiums. So I think we need to rejig that so it really becomes an impactful event both for television and our fans and on the technical side so it is quality all the way through -- from the group stage to the final.---Rob Harris is at www.twitter.com/RobHarris and www.facebook.com/RobHarrisReports Custom Cleveland Browns Jerseys . MIAMI -- With Giancarlo Stanton going on the disabled list and likely out for the rest of the regular season, manager Don Mattingly said the Miami Marlins would need to find new ways to win.Thats what they did Sunday. Pitcher Tom Koehler hit a two-run infield single. Ichiro Suzuki drove in a runner from second base with a sacrifice bunt. And Christian Yelich threw a strike from left field on the final play, giving Miami a 5-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox.We lost a little confidence knowing the big guy is going to be on the DL, third baseman Martin Prado said. But we had a mission today -- go up there and find a way to perform. The victory averted a series sweep and provided a morale boost for the Marlins, who put Stanton and left-hander Adam Conley on the disabled list before the game. Stanton is expected to be sidelined at least six weeks with a strained groin. Were not the same club without him, but were still good enough to move forward, Mattingly said. Well have a little different look. The Marlins won without Stanton on their first try when Yelich threw out pinch-runner Carlos Sanchez trying to score from second base on a two-out hit in the ninth inning. With runners at first and second, Tyler Saladino singled to left, but Yelich charged to field the ball on one hop and threw on the fly to catcher Jeff Mathis, who blocked the plate and tagged Sanchez for the game-ending out.I let the throw go and saw it was going to stay pretty straight and we had a shot, Yelich said. Matty caught it and put the tag on him. I was looking at (my teammates) and they were pumped, and I said, `This is pretty sweet.Chicago manager Robin Ventura said Sanchez was right to run the bases aggressively. You have to make them make a good play, and they did, Ventura said. It was a great throw.Fernando Rodney got his third save for Miami despite allowing three hits in the ninth, including a solo homer by Tim Anderson.Chris Sale (14-6) allowed five runs in 6 2/3 innings. Hes 0-4 in his past six starts and hasnt won since his suspension for cutting up the teams throwback jerseys July 23.Im not doing too much to help us win, Sale said. Its frustrating. It would be frustrating for anybody. I dont know what my lines are or my stats are, but I just know Im not winning games.ddddddddddddMiami trailed 2-0 before scoring three times in the fifth, thanks to four consecutive singles and Suzukis RBI bunt, which caught the White Sox napping. The bunt came with runners at first and second and nobody out, and catcher Omar Narvaez hustled toward the mound to field the ball and throw Suzuki out. But that left the plate uncovered, and Robert Andino -- who had been at second base -- kept running and scored without a throw.Sale said he was guilty of a brain cramp.Ive got to be at home plate for that, he said.Prados RBI single in the seventh put Miami ahead to stay. Marcell Ozuna snapped a 1-for-28 slump with two hits and drove in a run. Suzuki, who becomes a regular with Stanton out, didnt add to his career total of 3,003 hits but contributed his 13th RBI and scored Miamis final run.Koehler allowed three runs in six innings. Mike Dunn (3-1) pitched a perfect seventh.Chicagos Adam Eaton homered on the games first pitch. Jose Abreu hit an RBI single in the first inning, and a game-tying double that caromed off the third-base bag in the sixth.LATE ARRIVAL2B Andino, recalled from Triple-A to take Stantons roster spot, flew overnight from Las Vegas, landed at 9 a.m. and went directly to the ballpark. I aint complaining, he said. The nine-year veteran went 1 for 3 in his first major league game since 2013.GLOVE GEMS2B Saladino retreated into short center field to make running catches that robbed Prado and Adeiny Hechavarria of hits. The latter grab came with two runners aboard to end the second inning.TRAINERS ROOMMarlins INF Derek Dietrich was sore after being hit by a pitch Saturday for the 22nd time, this time in the right leg. He walked as a pinch-hitter in the eighth Sunday.UP NEXTMarlins: RHP David Phelps (5-6, 2.40) is scheduled to start Monday when Miami begins a four-game series at Cincinnati. The Marlins swept a three-game set from the Reds in July.White Sox: LHP Jose Quintana (9-8, 2.85) is scheduled to start Tuesday when Chicago opens a three-game series at Cleveland.
