BATON ROUGE, La. -- Head Coach Nikki Fargas notched her 100th win on the LSU sideline with a 69-51 win over in-state rival Tulane here at the Maravich Center Sunday afternoon. The win also snapped a three-game losing streak to the Green Wave at the PMAC. The Lady Tigers improve to 7-2 on the season with the victory, while Tulane falls to 5-4.Raigyne Moncrief and Shanice Norton led the Lady Tigers with 12 points apiece. Moncrief also had a team-leading five steals, while also logging four rebounds and three assists. LSU led by as many as 25 points early in the fourth quarter.LSU can credit this dominant performance to their stifling play on the defensive side of the ball. LSU forced the Green Wave into committing 30 turnovers, and were able to capitalize by scoring 37 of their 69 total points from those miscues. The last time that LSU forced 30 turnovers was against Auburn last season. The Lady Tigers were able to take a commanding lead in the second quarter by holding Tulane to 25 percent shooting from the field. The Green Wave accounted for just eight points in the second quarter while the Lady Tigers totaled 15 points, as LSU went into the lockerroom with a 31-18 advantage at the half. LSU tacked on 21 in the third quarter after shooting 53 percent (9-of-17) from the field. The Green Wave outscored LSU, 21-17, in the final period, but the 22-point deficit going into the fourth quarter was too much to overcome.LSUs bench more than doubled the scoring of Tulanes at 28-13, and the Lady Tigers also tripled the number of free throws attempted by the Green Wave. LSU was 21-of-30 from the line, and Tulane was 8-of-10 from the charity stripe.Tulane did come out on top on the boards, 39-33, with 23 of those rebounds being on the defensive side. Kolby Morgan, who came into the game averaging 18 points per contest, was held to just 11 points. She was the only Tulane player in double figures. The Lady Tigers will play three of their next four games at home to close out the month of December and the non-conference schedule. LSU will welcome thousands of elementary school children to the PMAC for the annual Field Trip game on Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m., when Sam Houston State travels to Baton Rouge. The Lady Tigers will make their only trip of the month when they travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to face North Carolina on Dec. 18.
