Rob Howley admits that Wales need to go to the next level after completing their autumn Test series with a record 27-13 victory over South Africa in Cardiff. It was only Wales third win aganinst the Springboks in 110 years, and came following second-half tries by hooker Ken Owens and flanker Justin Tipuric, while full-back Leigh Halfpenny kicked 17 points.I am delighted for the players, Wales interim head coach Howley said. We said back at the hotel if everyone could see the hard work and endeavour and the attitude the players have given in terms of training over the last five weeks, we would win every game. The transfer from training, for whatever reason, has not been to the standard that we all expected. That was the challenge today.I thought we were comfortable and were able to stretch South Africa more times than they were able to stretch us. There is another level in us - I thought we beat South Africa quite comfortably. At 20-6 ahead we didnt make it easy for ourselves. We never have, and never will. Thats the challenge, but I am delighted for the players, as they deserved that win today. It was in a manner that was comfortable, and we were clinical. We gave a couple of penalties away which sort of put us on the back foot, but the overriding emotion is I am delighted for the players. It was Wales best winning return - three victories out of four - in an autumn campaign since 2002, and Howley added: We came in setting our own goals, looking to better our 70 per cent home record, and we have done that. We have beaten South Africa for only the third time by a record margin, but we need to go to the next level. We play England and Ireland here in the Six Nations this season - that is what we have spoken about. We will enjoy tonight. It is important you celebrate success and the players deserve that, but then it is back to their day jobs with their clubs next week. We showed a lot of patience in our defensive alignment. They (South Africa) certainly came back on hit-backs and caused some issues early on, but thankfully, through good discipline and decision-making, we were able to keep them out. Injuries may be taking their toll but warhorse North Queensland prop Matt Scott is being backed to play until at least 2020 by someone who knows whats it takes - Petero Civoniceva.Scott has been placed in cotton wool by the Cowboys ahead of Friday nights NRL preliminary final against Cronulla at Allianz Stadium. The North Queensland prop is nursing a list of ailments including a bulging disc in his back and was in obvious pain during last weeks extra-time semi-final win over Brisbane.Still, the 31-year-old this week backed himself to not only step up in the Cowboys title defence but also play on until at least the end of 2020.Long-serving Test prop Civoniceva believed Scott - off contract in 2017 - had at least four seasons left despite the Cowboys front rowers worrying ailments.Civoniceva - who played until the age of 36 - said experience and age could also work in Scotts favour. For sure he can keep going. Obviously it is up to how his body responds, Civoniceva told AAP.The week to week grind can take its toll but knowing Matt, he is the ultimate professional. And that comes easier when you get older. He has learned that the longer you play the better you understand your body and know what works and what doesnt work.Scott said this week that he hoped to re-sign until at least 2020 with contract talks to start in the off-season.ddddddddddddCivoniceva - State of Origins most capped prop with 33 for Queensland - saluted ex-Maroons teammate Scotts durability in his 13th season. That just shows his toughness, he said.No one can ever question that about him, he just rolls up the sleeves and gets on with it.Last week you could see he was in discomfort but its a testament to his mental and physical strength. No doubt he will again lead from the front on Friday night.Scott underwent off-season surgery on a bulging disc in his neck.Cowboys coach Paul Green hinted that his co-captain may require some more medical assistance after their 2016 campaign. He copped an elbow (in the back) early against Brisbane which added just one more thing to the list of stuff he has to deal with on a weekly basis, Green said.I dont want to understate what he has to put himself through to get himself on the paddock. But there is nothing that stops him from functioning. He is just dealing with pain which he is pretty good at.But hes fine. There is a light at the end of the tunnel now. ' ' '
